Non-conference schedule

Here’s the release from today

Decent sled with seven home games and a couple of winnable road games.

Home game against Minnesota, a good Big Ten team  o’banion was an assistant there once, which is probably why it happened

No holiday tournament for the first time in a while.

Last preseason game is Dec. 22, which means a long, long break before the first MAC game

Head Coach Danielle O’Banion has announced the non-conference schedule for the 2015-16 women’s basketball season.

“This year’s non-conference schedule is an exciting one for two reasons,” O’Banion said. “We’re fortunate to host seven home contests and to face three teams who played in postseason tournaments last year. Golden Flashes fans have an opportunity to meet and support their team early and often.”

Competition begins with an exhibition against Hiram on Sunday, November 8.

The regular season begins with back-to-back home games starting with Colgate on Sunday, November 15. Wright State will then visit on Tuesday, November 17. The team will then face their first road test on Thursday, November 19 when they travel to IPFW.

On Tuesday, November 24, Minnesota will come to the M.A.C. Center, the first Big Ten team to play at the home of the Golden Flashes since Michigan State came in December 2003.

“The Gophers agreed to start a two-year series here in Kent,” O’Banion said. “We want to take full advantage of the opportunity to compete against one of the top offensive teams in the country by ‘maxing out the MACC’ on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.”

Play continues after Thanksgiving break with a home game against Malone on Saturday, November 28.

The month of December will begin with two more home contests with Cleveland State visiting on Wednesday, December 2 and North Dakota State visiting on Saturday, December 5.

“I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support while in treatment for Lymphoma last season,” O’Banion said. “While I will never be able to fully convey my gratitude, we will pay it forward. I want to personally invite families affected by cancer of any kind to this game to encourage and celebrate their courage and determination.”

The Golden Flashes will then hit the road and head to Bradley on Tuesday, December 8 and then to nearby Youngstown State on Saturday, December 12. The non-conference will wrap up at home against Brown on Tuesday, December 22.

The Mid-American Conference will pick up in January 2016. Stay tuned to kentstatesports.com as the season nears for Kent State’s complete schedule.
